La Grotesque, a typeface with Mediterranean flavour
What if a typeface could tell a story about shared histories, cultural fusion, and playfulness? La Grotesque is an Arabic/Latin typeface that draws inspiration from the warmth and vibrancy of Mediterranean culture.
La Grotesque Latin takes its cues from the rounded, inviting forms of early 20th-century wood type sans serifs, while the Arabic showcases the playful unpredictability of the Maghrebi (North West African) writing style, with its varied letterforms and proportions.
La Grotesque is available in 5 weights and includes a set of emojis to emphasise its playful character and Mediterranean personality and a set of inclusive glyphs in French and Italian languages.
La Grotesque was designed by Naïma Ben Ayed (Arabic) and Francesca Bolognini (Latin) between 2022 and 2024.
